A Dying Man’s Incredible Last Wish
In his final days, Bob Karlstrand is thinking of positive things to do rather than dwelling on what the future holds for him. Karlstrand is a 65-year-old Vietnam War veteran who has been fighting against colon cancer and is now facing terminal lung disease but still keeps a smile on his face.

Never having been married or had children, and knowing that he may not make it to age 66, Karlstrand has decided to give back to the community.
Karlstrand has a lifetime of memories including letters he sent to his mother, photographs, and even old golf scorecards in his Maple Grove, Minnesota, home. Due to his health condition the Vietnam War veteran has decided to donate his home to Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity with the only request being that his home goes to another veteran.
Not only is the veteran giving away his home, but he also is donating his retirement fund to the University of Minnesota’s nursing program. His donation of a $1 million dollar endowment has helped six college students this year and will help more students that are looking to continue their education in the future.
“The fact that I know they are going to be helped is enough for me,” Karlstrand told KARE 11 news.
Karlstrand has been giving away his other belongings little by little by having individuals come into his home and take what they want.
Ending his interview with KARE 11 news Karlstrand stated, “If I could help a little bit, that would be good.”
