NUEVO VALLARTA, Mexico, May 4 (UPI) —SurveyMonkey Chief Executive Officer Dave Goldberg died while he was exercising at a gym at a private report in Mexico, officials there said.

Goldberg died unexpectedly Friday at the age of 47 at the Four Seasons Resort near Punta Mita in southwest Mexico, his family announced.

Though the official cause of his death has not been announced, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office in Jalisco State told The New York Times Goldberg died of head trauma and blood loss.

Goldberg’s brother, Robert Goldberg, found the man on the floor of the gym around 4 p.m. Friday with blood around him. It appears “he fell off the treadmill and cracked his head open,” the spokesman, whose name wasn’t reported, said.

Goldberg died at Hospital San Javier in Nuevo Vallerta.

Goldberg was the husband of Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg. A Silicon Valley power couple, Goldberg and Sandberg lived in Menlo Park, Calif., with their two children.

Goldberg, who had worked as a venture capitalist and at Yahoo before starting SurveyMonkey, was known for his sense of humor.

Sandberg, whose book Lean In, focused on women’s challenges in the workplace, often said a big part of her success was due to her husband’s help at home.

The family is planning a private celebration of life service Tuesday at Stanford Memorial Auditorium.

SurveyMonkey has yet to name an interim replacement for Goldberg.
