EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah, July 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police were able to track down a road rage suspect now facing charges for pointing a gun at another driver in Eagle Mountain.
Utah County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Ariel Rangel Perez, 22, of Eagle Mountain Monday, according to a press release, after he was spotted driving through Eagle Mountain at about the same time as the reported June 27 road rage incident in the same vehicle. With no valid driver’s license, registration or insurance.
In the June 27 incident a man had pointed a handgun at another driver around 6:30 a.m. in Eagle Mountain. The victim was able to take down his assailant’s license plate number, and deputies identified a registered owner.
But they were unable to find him at the address on the registration or the driver license of the registered owner, police said. Another citizen believed she saw the suspect car that same evening near the city center area of Eagle Mountain.
“With this information in hand, (Monday) morning, a little before 6 a.m. a deputy monitoring traffic on Pony Express Parkway in the city center saw the car described by the victim and the witness.” The license plate also matched. The registration for the car was revoked, having expired in November.
The car was stopped and officers found Perez was the driver, whose license was suspended and he had no insurance on the car. He was cited and his car impounded.
“He admitted that he’d been involved in the road rage incident and admitted he brandished the handgun during that incident,” the press release said.
He was booked into jail on the multiple traffic offenses and suspicion of a class A misdemeanor charge of threatening with a dangerous weapon. Court records Tuesday did not immediately show what specific charges had been filed against Perez.
