SANDY, Utah, March 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men were shot with one bullet Saturday outside the International Sportsmen’s Expo in Sandy.
The men were sitting in a car in the parking lot of the Mountain America Expo Center, at 9575 State St., when one man attempted to hand a handgun to the other.
“The firearm discharged, and the bullet went through one guy’s hand and into the other guy’s leg,” said Sgt. Jason Nielsen, Sandy Police Department. “They were transported to a hospital in stable condition.”
Nielsen said there was “nothing suspicious about” the accident, which was reported at 3:45 p.m.
“It was just the two guys in the car. I would assume one was taking the gun from the other when it discharged.”
Nielsen said that inside the Sportsman’s Expo, many more safety precautions are taken.
“They’ll hire us as security, and hire other people to do inspections on the weapons, and make sure they are unloaded, and tag it with a name the whole time.”
The victims’ injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Nielsen said.
