WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A SWAT team served a search warrant at the Redwood Apartments early Friday morning and took four adults into custody after items indicated in the warrant were found.

Sgt. Sean McCarthy, West Valley City Police, said at about 12:30 a.m., the Street Crimes Unit was sent to serve the search warrant at the apartment complex, at 4000 S. Redwood Road.

McCarthy said as the SWAT team was en route to the scene, the primary suspect, along with other adults and a small child, left the residence.

“They were stopped around the corner,” McCarthy told Gephardt Daily, and everyone was taken back to the apartment.

The search warrant was for drugs and a firearm, McCarthy said. When officers entered the apartment, “they did see a firearm and some drugs.”

The search was still going on as McCarthy spoke, and he wasn’t sure exactly what drugs were found, or if other weapons had been located inside the apartment.

“They did recover a lot of drugs,” he added. “It was a good bust.”

Officials took four adults into custody and were interviewing them.

A 5-year-old child who was with the adults was taken into protective custody while police investigated the case.

McCarthy said whoever is found to own the items will be booked into jail for possession of a firearm and distribution of drugs.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
