IRON COUNTY, May 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of a man who went looking for help for his family after his vehicle became stranded in Iron County in March has been found.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the body of 34-year-old Daniel Michael Brown, was found under a tree on SR-130 near milepost 31. A ranch hand from an area ranch found it at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies responded to the area and found the body, along with other items that lead investigators to believe the body is that of Brown.
Brown went missing on March 28 of this year. His wife called authorities for help the next day, and she and their four children were rescued.
The woman said she, her husband and their children had been trapped in their van after being caught in blizzard-like conditions. Brown left the vehicle at approximately 4 p.m. Monday in search for help.
Deputies were able to hike to the stranded vehicle and made contact with the wife and the children, who were taken a hospital in Cedar City in good condition.
The search for Brown was called off on April 3 due to the weather conditions and the unlikelihood he would be found alive.
Brown’s body was found two miles from the vehicle and within the area previously searched. Deputies said searchers would have had to have been within a few feet to see Brown.
Deputies said it appears Brown died the night he went missing from exposure to the 30 degree temperatures.
Brown’s family has been notified. The body is being sent to the state Medical Examiner’s office pending an autopsy and positive identification.
