LEHI, UTAH – August 5, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A deadly accident on I-15 northbound has claimed two more lives, bringing the death toll to three.
According to UHP spokesman Lt. Corey Nye, the crash happened around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday near mile marker 284, when four vehicles were involved in a chain reaction near the I-15 construction zone.
16-year-old Keegan Colbree of Layton was inside a mini-van which had stopped for traffic when it was reared ended by a speeding passenger car. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Deeann Colbree, 53, died a short while later after being rushed to Intermountain Medical Center. The male driver of the mini-van, and a female passenger, were taken to Mountain View Hospital in critical condition. Their identities have yet to be released.
Sandy resident, Dale Orton, 59, the driver of a passenger car who police say started the chain reaction, was flown to Utah Valley Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A semi-truck driver and the driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash were uninjured.
The UHP says speed appears to be a factor in the accident. Their investigation is ongoing.
