NEPHI, Utah, Aug. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews are battling two wildfires burning west of Nephi both on the ground and in the air, officials said Sunday.
The Paint Mine Fire is burning directly west, between Nephi and Mona and has units from Nephi, Mona, Levan, Rocky Ridge and the Bureau of Land Management on scene, Juab County Fire District said in a Facebook post Saturday evening.
“Air attack is flying over with single engine air tanker planes dumping fire retardants,” the post said. “Additional crews have been ordered to assist.”
The other fire is off State Route 132 at mile post 15 approximately four miles west of the sand dunes turn off, officials said. It also has ground and air resources on it; units from Nephi, Eureka and the Bureau of Land Management are on scene.
A Facebook update Sunday said Nephi, Mona, Levan, Rocky Ridge and Eureka Fire will continue to work on both the Paint Mine Fire and the SR-132 mile post 15 fire.
“The Paint Mine Fire was very active throughout the night on the south end and has topped the mountain and is slowly burning on the Dog Valley side,” the update said. “Air and ground operations will continue today.”
The cause of the fires is under investigation.
