ST. GEORGE, Utah Oct. 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) —  A new website reaching out to victims of domestic violence has debuted with an endorsement from the St. George Police Department.

“As we continue to highlight domestic violence awareness in October, we’d like to highlight this new resource,” the department said online Saturday of ‘Dear Utah‘.

“This platform gives a chance for domestic violence survivors to share their story.”

So far, the site includes 18 accounts, most anonymous or signed with initials, detailing their trauma.

Under the headline “Tell your story, Utah” the site notes, “Domestic violence is a problem that impacts us all.

“Yet, according to the Women and Leadership Project’s 2023 survey, only 26 percent of people surveyed believed that domestic violence is an issue in our state. In Utah 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.”

‘Dear Utah’ lists contact information for 16 domestic violence shelters in the state from Rich County to San Juan County. It shares a long list of partners and sponsors including the YWCA, the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition, myriad crisis centers and lead sponsor Fight Against Domestic Violence.

FADV was formed in 2017, a non-profit organization running entirely on private donations that counts $1.1 million distributed in grants to more than 700 families and 20 service providers. The organization provides direct monetary help to those fleeing abusive situations covering everything from rent and utility bills to car repairs and doorbell ring cameras.

“If you or someone you know is a domestic violence victim and seeking support and resources, please see the resources tab on this website,” says Dear Utah. “If you’d like to support this cause and take action, start by sharing your story.
