DRAPER, Utah, Feb. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Draper Police Department has recovered $20,000 of property after tracking a cell phone that was stolen along with cash, electronics, laptops and other items.
Draper Police officers responded to a business burglary at Global Transportation Management Systems at 11576 S. State St. on Feb. 19.
Officers tracked one of the cell phones to an outbuilding located at 12353 S. Minuteman Drive. The suspect, Jacob Ford MacFarlane, 41, was found living in the outbuilding.
Parked near the outbuilding was a white 2000 Dodge pick-up that matched the vehicle used in the burglary earlier that morning. The pick-up was registered to MacFarlane.
Search warrants were obtained for the outbuilding and Dodge pick-up. Numerous stolen items were recovered from the burglary that occurred at State Street, along with other property believed to be stolen from construction sites, such as tools and spools of copper wiring.
Officers also recovered methamphetamine and paraphernalia indicative of distribution of illegal narcotics.
On Feb. 20, Draper investigators located a storage unit in MacFarlane’s name.
Draper Police said in a news release: “Investigators observed surveillance video of MacFarlane entering the storage facility with numerous bicycles, appliances and other items that had been reported stolen during recent residential burglaries in Draper.
“Investigators obtained a search warrant for MacFarlane’s storage unit and recovered a stolen bicycle and stand from a recent residential burglary, appliances and other furniture believed to be stolen from model homes in Draper.”
Investigators are currently working to match all recovered items with burglary cases that have been filed with Draper Police.
