LA VERKIN, Utah, Jan. 20, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews responded to a La Verkin residence early Monday after a small fire, doused by occupants hours earlier, reignited and spread.
Crews with Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue, responded at 5:30 a.m. to the house, at 161 N. 60 East in La Verkin.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found flames at the rear of the home, with fire extending through the eaves of the structure,” says a news release issued by Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue.
“The occupants had safely evacuated, and a neighbor had climbed onto the roof in an attempt to put out the flames before emergency responders arrived. Firefighters quickly assisted the neighbor in safely descending from the roof and immediately initiated an offensive attack on the fire. Crews worked efficiently to contain and suppress the blaze, preventing further damage to the residence.
“Earlier that evening, around midnight, the homeowners had experienced a small fire involving a grill at the back of the home. The occupants were able to extinguish the fire themselves but did not contact emergency services at that time. Unfortunately, the fire had not been fully extinguished inside the eaves, causing it to reignite and spread further into the home, prompting the occupants to call 9-1-1.”
No injuries were reported in the incident.
“Twenty firefighters responded to the scene, including personnel from the Hurricane Valley Fire District and the Department. The La Verkin City Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office also responded to this incident.
