DRAPER, Utah, July 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon on the mountainside east of Draper, and threatened three homes, which were evacuated.

The fire was first reported at about 1:45 p.m. near 9 E. Manilla Circle, Draper officials said. The area is near Point of the Mountain.

“Lucky for us, we had a lot of resources that were still available because it’s still early in the season, and were able to deploy those here. We were able to get pretty good knockdown,” Draper Fire Chief Clint Smith said.

By about 2:45, mandatory evacuations were lifted, but residents remained on standby.

Smith said at about 3:45 that, “there is no immediate threat” to homeowners, but residents remain on standby because a shift in winds could change conditions.

Smith was still working to get a helicopter to the area for bucket drops of water.

No injuries related to the fire were reported, he said, adding that there were no reports of fireworks being used in the area before the fire.
