SANDY, Utah, Aug. 26, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Family members of 16-year-old Kian Hamilton have identified him as the teen fatally stabbed Friday after an altercation in the parking lot of the Mountain America Expo Center.
“On Aug. 23rd, we tragically lost Kian Hamilton to an act of violence,” says a statement included in a GoFundMe page. “Our family is reaching out to ask for your support as we cope with the sudden and devastating loss of our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend.
“Kian had a loving spirit and a kind heart. His smile was infectious, and he had a special gift for making people laugh. He had a passion for baseball and cherished spending time with his friends and family. To everyone who knew Kian, he was a bright, intelligent young man with his whole life ahead of him.
“His mother, father, and extended family will need love, support, counseling, and your prayers as they grieve this inconsolable loss.”
Sandy City police responded to the scene Friday night.
“Fire Department personnel confirmed a juvenile male had been stabbed,” says a Sandy City Police news release issued at the time.
“The juvenile was transported to a local hospital where, despite lifesaving efforts, (he) succumbed to his injuries.”
Witnesses identified another juvenile as the suspect, and police took him into custody.
Hamilton was a student at Jordan High School, the police statement says, adding they would work closely with the school and Canyons School District. Jordan High offered students help from counselors on Saturday.
Jordan High was the site of a vigil for Hamilton, a sophomore, on Sunday night. Hundreds of people attended, including family members, students and school staffers.
