KANE COUNTY, Utah, July 8, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Deer Springs Fire, estimated at 1,200 acres on Sunday, is now believed to be 9,117 acres, growing to more than 7.5 times its previous size in a single day.
The fire still stands at 0% contained, according to information from the Central Utah Fire Interagency, shared by Utah Fire Info.
“Interagency fire resources are working to take advantage of today’s northeast winds, which are currently pushing the fire south of Skutumpah Road,” the agency statement says.
“Today’s operational priority is to secure the north flank of the fire, helping protect the Deer Springs Community and varying structures in the area once prevailing winds shift back, pushing the fire back to the north.”
Seven fire engines are assigned to the fire, as are two Large Air Tankers, two dozers, one water tender and about 50 people. Five additional crews are on order.
No evacuations have been ordered.
The fire, first reported Sunday, is believed to be human caused, but the investigation is ongoing.
Gephardt Daily will have more information as the story develops.
