MAPLETON, Utah, March 9, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Mapleton home that caught fire Wednesday morning appears to be a total loss, officials said.
Mapleton Chief of Police John Jackson said the two-alarm house fire at 1361 N. 200 West started Wednesday at approximately 10:30 a.m. A citizen called dispatch to report smoke coming from the home.
Mapleton Police Officers arrived on scene first and observed the heavy smoke. They attempted to gain entry to the home after getting no answer at the door but due to the amount of smoke, were not able to gain access inside.
Firefighters from Mapleton, Springville, Provo and Spanish Fork arrived, battled the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation, but Jackson said the home, built in 1999, has been deemed a total loss.
The family has all been accounted for.
