OGDEN, Utah, Feb. 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect who police say threw a firearm out of a car window and jumped from a moving vehicle was arrested Sunday afternoon after attempting to seek refuge in a home.
According to a press release issued by Ogden City Police, the incident started just after 3 p.m. when an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding near 1600 Monroe Blvd.
The suspect, a wanted fugitive identified as Augustine Sue, 28, fled from the officer. The officer pursued Sue for several blocks, but terminated the chase when he began driving into oncoming traffic.
Police said Sue was spotted several blocks away by a second officer, and the vehicle was still traveling at a high rate of speed and into oncoming traffic.
The pursuit was re-initiated because of the extreme danger Sue was creating to the public even while not being pursued by police.
During the pursuit, the suspect threw a firearm out of the car window and jumped from the vehicle while it was still moving.
He then ran into a home in an attempt to hide, but within a few minutes, ran out and into the neighborhood where he was apprehended.
The suspect’s driverless vehicle continued to travel into a yard near 2300 Madison Ave. and into a fence before coming to a stop.
The firearm was recovered by officers.
Sue was booked into the Weber County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, evading, possession of a loaded firearm by a restricted person, avoiding apprehension, interfering with an arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and trespass of a dwelling.
