One dead, 1 hospitalized after 5-vehicle collision, fire on I-80 at 7200 West

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 16, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A Tooele man is dead after a pickup driver rear-ended his vehicle Thursday evening on Interstate 80, and both vehicles caught on fire.

The driver of the pickup was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, a Utah Highway Patrol news release says. Three other vehicles also were caught up in the chain-reaction crash.

The Tooele man killed was 47. The injured driver of the pickup is 33.

The collision happened at about 7:42 p.m. on I-80 at about 7200 West, in Salt Lake County.

As of 8:45 p.m., westbound traffic on I-80 was closed near the site, with vehicles being diverted to 7200 West on the westbound off-ramp.
