SANDY, Utah, Aug. 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A juvenile stabbed Friday night in the parking lot of the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy has died from his injuries.

A second juvenile police say stabbed the victim is in custody.

Police and Sandy City Fire personnel responded to the address, at 9575 S. State, in the west area of the parking lot.

“Fire Department personnel confirmed a juvenile male had been stabbed,” a Sandy City Police news release says.

“The juvenile was transported to a local hospital where, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries.”

The police statement says the investigation is complex due to the juvenile status of “those involved and directly affected.

“We, Sandy police, are working closely with Canyons School District as the victim was a Jordan High School student. Students can seek help by going to the Jordan High Counseling Center. The school will be open today, Saturday, Aug. 24, for students who need assistance from our counselors, school psychologists, and social workers.”

The investigation is active, the police statement said, adding that “investigations involving juveniles are very delicate and fragile, and require a significant amount of dedication, exactness and care. The Sandy Police Department will provide any updates as they become available.”
