JUNEAU, Alaska, Aug. 18, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Southern Utah man accused of killing his wife while they were on an anniversary cruise in Alaska has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder.
Kenneth Manzanares, 39, was arrested in connection with wife Kristy’s July 25 death in their Emerald Princess cabin. He was formally indicted on Wednesday.
The couple, from Santa Clara, near St. George, was reportedly traveling with their three daughters.
According to court papers filed last month, 39-year-old Kristy Manzanares died after a domestic dispute. When someone knocked on the cabin door, Kenneth Mazanares answered, covered with blood, and his wife was motionless on the floor, with a traumatic head wound.
A probable cause statement indicates Manzanares was asked why he attacked his wife, and said, “She would not stop laughing at me.”
A witness watched as Manzanares attempted to pull his wife’s body toward the cabin’s balcony, and stopped him, the statement says.
“Later, when Manzanares was being processed during a search by the F.B.I. for physical evidence, he spontaneously stated, ‘My life is over,’” the probable cause statement says.
The next hearing in this case will be the arraignment, according to information released Thursday by U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Chloe Martin. That court date has not yet been scheduled.
