Suspect dead, officers injured in Logan shooting

LOGAN, Utah,  May 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect is dead and two officers are injured after an exchange of gunfire Wednesday afternoon in Logan.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene of the confrontation reportedly in the area of the Stewart Nature Park at 700 East 100 South.

Two officers were injured and treated and released at a local hospital. 

“At approximately 4:30 p.m. detectives with the Logan City Police Department contacted an adult male during an investigation,” said a departmental statement released at 7:30 p.m. “While attempting to make an arrest, the individual began to resist and produced a firearm which he discharged at officers at close range.

“An officer returned fire. Despite life-saving efforts by officers on scene the individual was pronounced dead by medical personnel.”

Pursuant to state law and Northern Utah Critical Incident protocol, an investigation of the incident is being conducted by the critical incident team, a multi-agency unit that investigates officer-involved incidents.

Once the investigation is complete, the Cache County Attorney’s Office will review the findings and release an analysis, according to the release, which noted the officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review.

“At this time this is all the information that is being released.”
