Suspect in custody after SWAT standoff in Salt Lake City neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 22, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect was taken into custody Friday morning hours after he barricaded himself into a recreational vehicle in a Salt Lake City neighborhood.

Police were notified at 2:15 a.m. of a reported assault with a weapon. The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, they said later.

The suspect, believed to be armed, fled to his parked RV, in the area of 400 N. Pamela Way. Nearby roads were blocked off, and negotiators were brought in.

“We are currently dealing with a barricaded subject near 400 N. and Pamela Way,” a 7:34 a.m. tweet from the Salt Lake City Police Department said. “Our SWAT team, negotiators and social workers are in scene. There is no threat to the public. Please avoid the area.”

The suspect was arrested at about 8:55 a.m. His identity has not yet been released.

“The individual surrendered and was taken into custody without incident,” a 9:25 a.m. SLCPD tweet said. “Roads in the area should reopen shortly. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
