SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 13, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal auto-pedestrian crashes which happened just moments apart in the same location early Saturday morning.

A UHP press release says the investigation began at approximately 3:54 a.m. when “troopers responded to a crash involving multiple vehicles and two pedestrians,” near 900 W. I-215 W. eastbound.

A dark SUV had pulled to the shoulder and “a female exited the vehicle and entered the right travel lane,” the UHP press release said.

“A silver Kia Spectra struck the female” who was fatally injured.

The male driver of the SUV “exited the vehicle and was subsequently struck by a dark Volkswagen Tiguan as he moved towards the female victim,” according to the UHP.

“The female was pronounced dead on scene and the male was transported to a local hospital where he died a short time later.”

The names of the victims have yet to be released.

“I-215 W EB was closed at Redwood Rd as troopers investigate the incident,” the UHP said.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
