NEW YORK, March 4 (UPI) — HBO and Apple are negotiating a deal to make Apple TV one of the network’s partners when it launches its standalone streaming service in April.

The over-the-top service means consumers will be able to subscribe to HBO independently without going through a cable or satellite television provider.

The new service is called HBO and is expected to cost $15, about the same as consumers currently pay through a television provider.

Should an agreement be reached, HBO Now would be available through the Apple TV device. Ultimately Time Warner Inc., HBO’s parent company, will want to come to similar deals with other distributors including Roku, Xbox, PlayStation and Amazon, which offers streaming through its Amazon Fire device.

Sources told the International Business Times Apple was aggressively courting HBO Now hoping the service will drive adoption of Apple TV.

HBO Now is expected to go live in April prior to the highly anticipated Season 5 premiere of HBO’s current flagship series, Game of Thrones on April 12.
