SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – November 9, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A driver and passenger were transported to the hospital in fair condition after allegedly being cut off by another vehicle, causing them to slide across four lanes of traffic.
Sgt. Jacob Cox with the Utah Highway Patrol said a silver vehicle was traveling south to merge onto SR-201 from 1-15 southbound. He said the driver claimed another vehicle cut him off, and he over-corrected and swerved off to the left-hand side. He side-swiped the barrier on the left hand side, which caused him to lose control, slide across all four lanes and plow head-on into the barrier on the right-hand side.
Sgt. Cox said the damage to the car is consistent with someone going the speed limit, and the driver and passenger both had their seat belts on. “It could have been a lot worse,” Sgt. Cox said. “We used extrication tools to pry open the driver’s side door a little wider; because of damage to the front corner they couldn’t get the driver’s door open wide enough to pull him out safely.”
No witnesses saw the other car, so police are waiting to see if the driver or passenger have a description.
The driver and passenger were transported to the IMC.
