MAGNA, Utah, June 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire Authority crews battled a structure fire on a commercial property in Magna for six hours early Saturday morning.
The call came in shortly after midnight, according to firefighter and paramedic Taylor Sandstrom, of the Unified Fire Authority. Firefighters were dispatched to 2350 S. 7200 West.
“When our crews arrived they found two trailers occupied by multiple individuals,” Sandstrom said. “All the occupants made it out, but two dogs perished.
“Crews had some difficulties putting out the fire because the nearest hydrant was over 8,000 feet (more than 1.5 miles) away,” he said.
Firefighters called for a water tender, a tanker truck full of water, and began fighting the blaze. The main fire was put out quickly, Sandstrom said, but breaking up the rubble and and making sure all the hot spots were out increased the total time on site to six hours.
A female Unified Police officer was transported to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. Sandstrom did not have information on her condition.
The trailers were a total loss.
