MURRAY, Utah, Dec. 25, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — When a shed on Meadow Crest Drive went up in flames a little before 10 p.m. Sunday, firefighters had it under control within 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, the family’s lamb dinner could not be saved.
Murray Fire Department Deputy Chief Jon Harris told Gephardt Daily that, upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire in a shed behind the home’s garage.
He said the family members had been taking turns keeping an eye on the lamb they were roasting on a rotisserie in the shed.
When the son looked out and saw the shed appeared to be burning, he alerted the family, and they attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, Harris said. The hose was frozen, though, so the fire department was called.
In the meantime, the family removed as much as they could from the garage, which was being threatened by the flames.
Harris said fire crews quickly had things under control. The shed was a total loss, but the large garage only had some damage in the back.
Offering some advice for preventing fires, especially during the hectic holiday season, Harris said, “Don’t leave anything unattended.”
That goes for candles, fireplaces, stoves and, yes, roast lamb.
