GRAND COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — After a day of flooding, officials at 9:30 p.m. Friday were advising “more storms on the way.”
And “Flash Flood Warnings Still in Effect for Grand County,” Grand County Emergency Management said online.
“At 929 p.m. MDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles southwest of Moab to 12 miles east of Canyonlands National Park to 20 miles southwest of Spanish Valley,” the agency said.
“Movement was east at 35 mph.” Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail expected.
At 8:35 p.m. Moab City was online advising people to “please avoid driving in and around downtown Moab at this time. Water is impacting several streets and could be dangerous. Thank you!”
Specifically, 300 South, 100 East, 400 East and 500 West near Mill Creek are temporarily closed due to water over the roadway.
Kane Creek Blvd passable only with 4-wheel drive at this time. Other roads in the county also are affected by flooding.
Water levels in Mill and Pack creeks are high.
“FOR YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM BRIDGES, CREEKS AND CREEK BANKS.”
Grand County Emergency Management Friday night also posted a list of impacted areas:
- Highway 191 at Mile Marker 118 near Sunny Acres
- Sunny Acres Lane
- Stocks Drive
- Old City Park Road
- Shumway Lane
- Kerby Lane
- Kane Creek Boulevard – 4 wheel drive only
- Dogwood Avenue – debris on roadway
- Heaven Avenue – impassible
- 200 South in Moab
- 300 South at 100 East – water up and over the roadway
- 400 East at the bridge
- 100 West in Moab at the bridge
- 100 East in Moab at the bridge
- Mill Creek Parkway
- 500 West
