SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, July 30, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he allegedly tried to carjack three vehicles in Salt Lake County, each of them driven by young women, Salt Lake City Police say.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Oscar Jimenez, 35, is facing charges of:
- 3 charges of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony
- Giving false personal identity to peace officer, a class A misdemeanor
- Disorderly conduct, an infraction
The statement says: “A/P (accused person) attempted to push a female victim out of her driver’s side door as she was exiting and get into her vehicle; victim one had to fight A/P off to prevent him from stealing her vehicle.”
The suspect also attempted to get into two other vehicles, also with female victims, the statement said.
“These threatening actions caused public alarm, and multiple witnesses reported to dispatch,” according to the affidavit.
The witnesses said Jimenez appeared to specifically target young women.
“Once detained, A/P gave multiple names and date of birth that did not come back to anyone, and were completely different from his own; his identity was only discovered because another officer on scene remembered his name,” the statement said.
Jimenez was transported to Salt Lake County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
