MORGAN COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 11, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — First responders in Morgan County held a ceremony Saturday to celebrate the arrival of new equipment.
“A wonderful day for our Morgan County Fire & EMS friends!,” says a congratulatory post from neighbors Mountain Green Fire.
“A ‘push-in’ ceremony for their new fire engine was held Saturday. The whole community turned out including your Mountain Green Firefighters to help dedicate the 2024 Pierce Sabre pumper.”
A push in ceremony is a fire agency tradition, inspired by the era of horse-drawn fire equipment, according to firerescue1.com.
“The animals were unable to back into the station, requiring members to detach the horses and push the equipment into the bay. Over time, with the invention and adoption of motorized apparatus, the need to manually move the equipment was gone. However, the legacy of the push-in was secured.
“Now, in honor of those early crews, many fire departments hold a push-in ceremony when taking delivery of a new apparatus, often inviting community members to celebrate the exciting moment their tax dollars helped make possible.”
The new engine replaces a 2004 engine that Morgan County Fire & EMS sold to Wasatch Peaks Fire, and relegates that agency’s 1993 engine to “second out” duty, the Mountain Green Fire post says.
“Only nine months to go for us! Mountain Green is awaiting delivery of our new 2025 Pierce Responder Urban Interface pumper, which has been delayed by Hurricane Helene,” the post says.
“Congratulations Morgan! Literally it takes years of work and planning to create/design a fire engine, as we have found out during our process. It was a fun day for everyone!”
