Motorcyclist killed in Washington City collision with Jeep

WASHINGTON, Utah, July 28, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist died Sunday morning in Washington City after his Harley Davidson was struck by a red Jeep Rubicon.

The incident happened at about 6:58 a.m. at Telegraph Street and Coral Canyon Boulevard.

“It was reported the motorcycle rider was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet,” a Washington City Police statement says.

WCPD officers “arrived on scene and began life saving efforts. However, the adult male rider passed away on scene due to injuries sustained from the accident.”

The Jeep driver and witnesses were questioned.

“The initial investigation indicates the Jeep was traveling eastbound on Telegraph Street as it attempted to turn left and travel northbound onto Coral Canyon Blvd. The Harley Davidson was traveling westbound on Telegraph through the intersection. The motorcycle collided with the front bumper of the Jeep and caused the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle.

“At this time, it appears the driver of the Jeep did not see the motorcycle coming as it made the turn,” the police statement says. “The driver of the Jeep is cooperating with the investigation at this time. No formal charges have been submitted as the investigation is still ongoing.”

The news release said the roadway is expected to remain closed for the investigation and cleanup until approximately 1 p.m. Sunday.

The victim is believed to be a Washington County resident. His name has not been released due to ongoing family notification.

“The Washington City Police Department sends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of this tragic incident,” the statement says. It also thanks assisting agencies including Washington City Fire, St. George City Police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, UDOT Incident Management, Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance.

It also thanked citizens on scene who helped.
