WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Nov. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Three juveniles are in custody after a 20-minute police pursuit through West Valley City early Sunday morning.
Lt. Steve Burke, West Valley City Police Department, said a WVCPD officer found a Saturn coming out of a neighborhood at 3000 S. 7200 West at approximately 2 a.m. and attempted to pull the driver over for reckless driving and not having a license plate. The vehicle was also possibly stolen, Burke said.
“The vehicle immediately fled, speeds were relatively low, and risk factors were not all that high,” Burke said. He added the driver of the vehicle continued to stop for stop signs and at red lights.
The vehicle was then involved in an accident at 6200 South and Bangerter Highway. The driver hit two other cars going in the same direction while trying to push through traffic.
“That kind of escalated things a little bit. We never really think that the end justifies the means, but when they’re involved in an accident like that, where they’re forcing cars off the road to evade the police, that kind of ups the ante a little bit,” Burke said.
No one was injured in the accident, and police pursued the Saturn to the area of 9000 S. 3780 West, where the driver crashed into a yard.
Police then took three juveniles–the driver and two passengers–into custody without incident.
Officials are trying to get in contact with the owner of the vehicle to verify if it was stolen.
Burke said it is too early to tell what charges the three will be facing.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
