SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly killed a kitten and vandalized a home, then tried to disarm a police officer who was attempting to arrest him.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Ku Htoo, 23, is facing charges of disarming a peace officer, a first-degree felony; assault on a peace officer, a class A misdemeanor; aggravated cruelty to animals intentionally or knowingly, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
On Monday just after 7 p.m., police were called to an address in the area of 1100 W. Indiana Ave. in Salt Lake City.
“Upon police arrival, A/P (accused person) immediately advanced towards a SLCPD officer and fought him with his fists,” the statement said. “The A/P grabbed the officer’s gun, which was still in the holster, and pulled on it. A/P attempted to remove the holstered firearm and disarm a police officer who was attempting to effect an arrest.”
Htoo was eventually placed into custody with minor injuries.
A family member and witness gave a written statement to police indicating that Htoo “had broken out several windows to the home and killed a kitten prior to officers’ arrival.”
After being read his Miranda rights, Htoo admitted to killing the kitten by throwing it. He also admitted to breaking the windows because he couldn’t talk to his girlfriend, the statement said. The girlfriend was not present and not involved in this incident, the statement added.
Htoo was transported to the Salt Lake City Jail with his bail set at $24,580.
