SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah, April 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Bexleigh Clark’s first day on earth was one of dad Travis’ most dramatic.
“I deployed to Afghanistan, a combat vet, and that was probably the craziest thing I’ve ever done or been part of,” said the elder Clark, a Unified Police officer, who delivered his daughter at 3:28 a.m. on the side of Redwood Road, near 2100 North.
Bexleigh wouldn’t wait for the delivery room.
“It happened pretty quick,” said Clark, who the truck stopped after wife Paige said the baby was coming. Travis Clark pulled to the side of the road, raced around the truck and opened the door.
“And the baby just kind of fell out,” Clark said. “I grabbed the baby and flipped her over, kind of in football style, and patted her on the back, got her to cough, make sure she was breathing, wrapped her up and handed her to Mom.”
Clark grabbed blankets to wrap mother and child, turned up the head in his truck as high was it could go, and grabbed a string to tie off the umbilical cord.
“And then that was it,” he said, remembering the morning’s events while cradling Bexleigh later at Intermountain Health Care Riverton.
Bexleigh joins older sister Charleigh, who welcomed her new sister into the family at the hospital.
