ECHO JUNCTION, Utah, Feb. 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Interstate 80 was closed at Echo Junction Friday night due to a semi truck that caught on fire after crashing.

A news release from Utah Highway Patrol said a semi truck and trailer were traveling west on I-80 at Echo Junction near milepost 169 at 9:40 p.m. The driver ran off the road to the right, hitting an end guardrail section and concrete barrier.

The truck and trailer broke apart on impact. The tractor truck overturned and became fully engulfed in fire. The trailer carrying food items overturned outside of the shoulder.

The driver was able to exit safely with minor injuries.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, I-80 westbound was shut down and was expected to be closed for several hours for cleanup. Westbound traffic was being diverted to I-84.

UHP said speed appears to be a factor in this crash.
