SLCPD: Man charged after brandishing gun, threatening to ‘shoot up the place’ at downtown bar

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 13, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening people with a gun and trying to fight them as he was being ejected from a downtown bar.

“Officers were contacted by the victim in the area of Exchange Place and Cactus Street in SLC that the AP had brandished a gun at them,” says a probable cause statement filed in the arrest of Cody Davis.

“Victims stated while (Davis) was getting removed from the bar, he was trying to fight people and brandished a gun at the victims. In addition the victims stated he was ‘going to shoot up the place.’ The victims described the firearm looked like a black Glock.”

Salt Lake City police found Davis’ car in a nearby parking garage, the Salt Lake City Police statement says. The car “had a gun in plain view which matched the description of (how) the victims described the gun.”

Post Miranda, Davis “admitted to lifting up his shirt and pants during the altercation, however denied having a gun in his waistband,” the police statement says. Davis “blew a .078 in the pbt breathalyzer after admitting the found firearm in his car was his.”

Davis was arrested for investigation of threat/use of a dangerous weapon in a fight, a class A misdemeanor; and carry a dangerous weapon under the influence of alcohol/drugs, a class B misdemeanor. His bail was set at $500.
