UINTAH COUNTY, Utah, July 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) – A man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after being shot multiple times in what police are calling a “domestic violence incident” in Uintah County Saturday night.
The incident occurred in the Canyon Villas Townhouses at 2425 W. 500 North in Uintah County, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
“Deputies were dispatched to a family fight; the call was immediately updated to ‘shots fired,'” the news release said. “When deputies arrived, they found an adult female victim in a neighbor’s residence that had been shot multiple times. Deputies were directed to another residence where it was believed the shooter had fled. After a short search, an adult male, believed to be the suspect, was found deceased inside that residence.”
According to witnesses, a physical altercation could be heard between the man and woman inside their residence. The woman then ran from her residence and was knocking on her neighbors’ doors looking for help.
“The male suspect followed after her and shot her multiple times with a handgun as one of the neighbors was opening their door,” the news release goes on. “The neighbor was able to get the victim inside his residence until law enforcement and EMS crews arrived.”
The suspect then fled back to his residence where deputies found him deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot.
The victim was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal with serious but non-life threatening injuries and later airlifted to Salt Lake City for further treatment.
This investigation is still ongoing.
Neither the man or woman has been identified by officials.
