FAIRFIELD, Utah, June 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Jordan woman was seriously injured Sunday in an ATV crash in Utah County, and a passenger in the speeding truck transporting her to the hospital was arrested on drug and alcohol charges.
A statement from Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff’s Office, said a deputy patrolling on State Route 73 in Fairfield stopped a pickup just before noon Sunday after noticing it was traveling 89 mph in a 55 mph zone, and was passing other traffic in an unsafe manner.
The deputy found that one passenger, Tammy Lynn Huish, 46, of West Jordan, was in serious condition after reportedly crashing on an ATV at Five Mile Pass Recreation Area.
Her companions had decided to drive her to the hospital rather than call 911.
Huish had an obviously broken femur, and a possibly broken hip and collar bone, the UCSO statement said. Huish, in serious condition, was flown to Intermountain Medical Center by helicopter.
Huish was found to have a warrant for her arrest for felony theft out of 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City. The bail on that warrant was $15,000. Because of her injuries, Huish was not arrested for the warrant.
The deputy observed multiple open containers of alcohol in the pickup, and a glass pipe with a substance that was later determined to be methamphetamine.
Another passenger in the pickup, Gary Glenn Winham, 47, of San Bernardino, Calif., told the officer the pipe and open containers belonged to him.
Winham was arrested and booked into the Utah County jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
The driver of the pickup, Ernest Ronald Holland, 56, of West Jordan, was cited for allowing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
