VINEYARD, Utah, Aug. 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman found unconscious in a Vineyard garage filled with carbon monoxide gas has died.

Angelica Maria Avila Almanza, 24, had no pulse when she was found last Wednesday, Aug. 7. Utah County deputies began CPR until Orem Fire paramedics arrived and took over.

Avila Almanza was taken by ground ambulance to Timpanogos Hospital in Orem, then airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in critical condition. She remained on life support until her death on Sunday afternoon, a Utah County Sheriff‘s Office statement says.

Avila Almanza was found in the garage with a man who was breathing but not conscious. He was transported to Utah Valley Hospital, in Provo.

“Investigators believe Avila Almanza and the man were in the garage and may have been running the car motor so they could use the air conditioning,” the statement says.

“The walk through door into the home from the garage, and the roll up garage door were closed during this time and there was no carbon monoxide sensor in the garage. There were, however, carbon monoxide sensors inside the apartment which eventually activated.

“Four other occupants of the apartment were wakened by that alarm and left the apartment and called 911. Those four were evaluated at the scene and released.”

A Spanish-language GoFundMe page in the name of Avila Almanza says it is raising funds so she can be buried in Mexico. To view the page, click here.

As in all cases, Gephardt Daily cannot guarantee funds gathered will be used for the stated purpose.
