KEARNS, Utah, June 4, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman has been arrested after she allegedly drove into a police vehicle and threatened officers with a shoe in Kearns on Monday.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Krystal Mary Bujan, 31, is facing charges of:

  • Three counts of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony
  • Failure to respond to officer’s signal to stop, a third-degree felony

Officers responded to a welfare check regarding a female possibly on drugs and threatening suicide by police in the area of 5949 S. Misty Way, the statement said.

Bujan was walking northbound on Misty Way, and information stated she had a handgun. She did have a black object in her hands; it was later identified as a black shoe, the statement said.

“Krystal was holding the shoe like a firearm with both arms extended forward and her hands were holding the shoe as if she were holding a handgun,” the statement said. “Krystal repeatedly placed her hands with the shoe behind her back then would quickly move it up to the handgun position. After doing that several times, Krystal got into her Blue 2000 Honda Odyssey. As an officer was standing near the officer’s patrol vehicle Krystal put the vehicle in drive and accelerated toward the officer, running through a residential fence.”

The officer was able to get into the patrol vehicle and move it to avoid getting hit by the suspect.

“Krystal then drove northbound, made an abrupt U-turn, and started driving southbound on Misty Way,” the statement said. “Krystal made an immediate left turn on Sun Drive driving eastbound at a high rate of speed, colliding with residential garbage cans located on the shoulder of Sun Drive. While driving eastbound Krystal opened the driver door and attempted to exit the vehicle. Krystal got stuck in the driver door and fell back into the driver seat.”

Bujan turned the steering wheel to the right, hitting the curb, then abruptly turned the wheel to the left and allegedly rammed the officer’s police vehicle.

The suspect then continued driving eastbound on Sun Drive at a high rate of speed, the statement said. Her vehicle drifted right again, hitting the curb, then she turned the steering wheel to the left again, allegedly ramming the police vehicle a second time.

The airbags deployed on Bujan’s vehicle, and it came to a stop at the intersection of 5985 S. 4140 West. Bujan attempted to exit the driver door, but the officer used his police vehicle to pin the driver door closed.

“Krystal was lying across the driver and front passenger seat,” the statement said. “Krystal was foaming at the mouth and was not responding to police commands. Krystal was removed from vehicle from the passenger side and stabilized on the roadway. Krystal was screaming that she wanted to die and wanted suicide by cop. Krystal was fighting and flailing her legs and arms around and ignoring all police verbal commands.”

Unified Fire Authority responded and transported Bujan to Intermountain Medical Center.

She is being held without bail.
