MOGADISHU, Somalia, Nov. 6 (UPI) — A car bomb that exploded near the Somali Parliament building killed three people, including two police officers, and injured several more on Saturday, government officials said.
The Islamist militant group al-Shabab claimed responsibility.
Al Jazeera reported the bomb went off near a military checkpoint near the capital building in Mogadishu. The target appeared to be a military convoy that was passing through the checkpoint at the time of the blast. Several soldiers in the convoy were also injured, officials said.
Al-Shabab previously controlled the Somali capital before African Union peacekeeping forces drove them out of the city in 2011. Since then, the group has launched numerous terrorist attacks in the city.
