KAYSVILLE, Utah, July 7, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Kaysville firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire just before midnight Saturday after callers reported fireworks being thrown or shot from cars into a dry field.
Crews arrived at the scene, near 1300 S. Angel St., and found the suspects had left. Crews were able to control the fire before it reached any structures, says a news release issued by Kaysville Fire.
“While crews worked on the first fire, additional 911 callers reported similar circumstances near Bonneville Lane & Tessa Creek Way,” the statement says.
“Fireworks were again being shot or thrown into dry grass near homes from moving vehicles. Additional crews from KFD and Layton City Fire were dispatched.
“Fortunately, the second incident did not result in a fire.
“Law enforcement from Kaysville PD and other agencies located & detained the suspects, who were juveniles. This is still an active case.”
Kaysville Fire officials are asking parents to educate their children to the dangers of fires and fireworks.
“While recent fireworks-related fires in Kaysville have not resulted in injuries or property loss, this could easily change under different weather conditions. It is crucial for parents to take responsibility in helping prevent potential tragedies in our community.”
The department provided a National Fire Protection Association link for anyone seeking family friendly firework safety information.
