OREM, Utah, Dec. 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah County woman faces a felony charge of child abandonment after police say she was intoxicated and did not provide food for her children in a 36-hour period.

Orem resident Sarah Janine Oliver, 32, was charged with child abandonment, a third-degree felony, in connection with an incident on Nov. 24 of this year.

“Officer (Jordan) Seely was dispatched to Orem regarding two children (who) had been
left alone and hadn’t eaten for 36 hours,” Oliver’s probable cause statement says. “Defendant was contacted by officers and she was extremely intoxicated.

“Defendant had not fed nor cared for her children for over 36 hours because of her
intoxication. The children were hungry and scared.”

The charge was filed against Oliver by the Utah County Attorney’s Office on Monday.

Oliver has not been placed in custody.
