WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two teenage boys are in custody after taking a joyride in a stolen SUV packed with drugs, a pellet gun and large amounts of food including soda, frozen pizza and cookies.
Police said a 12-year-old who was also in the vehicle was released into the custody of his parent.
West Valley Police spokesperson Roxeanne Vainuku said in a news release that the incident began when two boys, aged 13 and 16, ran away from home in Sandy Monday morning.
The news release said: “Both boys went to a friend’s house and stole the friend’s wallet.
“The subjects then stole a neighbor’s car and picked up an additional friend, a 12-year-old boy. After spending all day in the car and then spinning the tires on the grass at Carl Sandberg Elementary, they drove into a neighborhood.”
West Valley Police followed the trio into a dead end circle at 5275 W. 3990 South at approximately 8 p.m. The 16-year-old driver jumped out of the car and fled on foot. The other two remained on scene and were taken into custody.
A WVCPD K-9 unit located the driver nearby. The SUV involved had been reported stolen.
The two teens were transported to juvenile detention.
